Title: "Jara"
Author: Jasone Osoro
Published: 2001
Genre: Young Literature

(THERE IS NOT A VERSION IN ENGLISH)

A strange feeling struck Jara. She used to stay home frequently, but that day, March 20, was special. She got into the bathroom and stood in front of the mirror. Her eyes remained the same as before, gray. The hair did not look any longer or shorter. But she looked very different. She had changed, yes. Overnight she had become a woman, but was it really that easy? To grow, to be master of her actions ... There were her parents, her friend Ihintza, Urko; Jazz, the most handsome boy in high school, and a whole world to discover.

We are all afraid to grow up, we are afraid of the changes we have whey we are growing up, the bad humour and the results that it entails. And Jara is no less, she is a 13 year old girl who is beginning to notice the changes from being a girl to becoming a woman.

Jara is feeling all the hormonal changes entailed by maturity. Jasone Osoro describes these changes in an easy and understandable way, almost as if we were living it. It is a highly recommended reading for young people from 12 years old onwards cause it will be much easier to understand the hormonal changes. Although this book is written by a woman's point of view, I also recommend it for boys as they will be able to understand the changes that women have. In addition, they also include male characters in the story and children can also easily be identified with them.

Jara is discovering many of her changes throughout her story, becoming more angry with her parents and becoming closer to her friend Ihintza. She falls in love with Urko one of the main characters and that complicates much more the mood swings and her rebellion.

Even though, it is a short book of 133 pages, it is very easy to read and brings us a lot in a few chapters.
All the chapters of this story have a new problem or a new story that Jara tells us with which you will never get bored with this book.

I read it a few years ago, I enjoyed reading a lot and it brought different points of view of maturity. Also I am sure that many of the readers felt very identified with Jara and her changes. I fully recommend this story and I am sure many readers will read it more than once as I did in my time.
